Skill Advancement Courses 

These courses are recomended for all members of the UBC.

Scaffold Erector Qualification --
This program, developed in partnership with OSHA and the DOE, addresses OSHA safety regulations for scaffolding, scaffolding introduction, and the specific procedures for erecting Frame Scaffold, Tube and Clamp Scaffold, and System Scaffold. OSHA has updated their scaffolding regulations and part of the changes in the regulations states that people who work on scaffolds and people who erect scaffolds, must be properly trained. (Prerequisite: None)  Enrollment Fee:  No fee

Scaffold Erector Refreshers -- This course is for persons whose Scaffold Erector qualification card is expired or about to expire.  There is a 1 year grace period to renew qualification card after which time the entire course must be taken. (Prerequisite: Scaffold Erector Qualification Card)  Enrollment Fee:  No fee

Note: Participants "Shall" bring their Scaffold Erector qualification card.  The card is needed for the registration form.  If a member has not completed refresher training prior to expiration date, the completion card is suspended until required training is completed.

Scaffold User -- None scheduled at this time.  The course is for workers who will be working on scaffold, or scaffold users.  You will learn about the danger of using scaffold and how to protect yourself.  After taking this course, you should be able to identify and recognize the causes of these hazards and the precautions you need to take. (Prerequisite: None)  Enrollment Fee: No fee

Note: This course will not teach you to build scaffolds (Scaffolds Erector) or take them down (Scaffold Dismantlers) or become a "qualified person" or "competent person" on a scaffold job.
Recommended for all U.B.C. members who do not have a Scaffold Erector qualification card.

Rigging Qualification Program -- This course covers rigging safety, rigging hardware, construction, rigging hardware inspection, knots, rigging procedures, crane types and rigging signals.  Written testing and hands-on projects are used to evaluate the member's proficiency. (Prerequisite: None)  Enrollment Fee: No fee

Note: This class is recommended for all qualified millwrights.  Also recommended for scaffold erector qualification program.

Rigging Qualification Program Refresher -- This course is for persons whose Rigging Qualification card is expired or about to expire.  There is a one year grace period to renew qualification card after which time the entire course must be taken. (Prerequisite: U.B.C. Rigging Qualification card)  Enrollment Fee: No fee

Note:
(1) If a member has not completed refresher training prior to expiration date, the completion card is suspended until required training is completed.
(2) Participants "Shall" bring their Rigging Qualification card.  The card number is needed for the registration form.

NOTE TO ALL APPRENTICES:  All apprentices are encouraged to complete all Certification/Qualification courses; however, Apprentices must always work under the direction of a qualified journeyman. 

**NOTE: All courses are subject to minimum enrollment as defined by the committee.
Due to class size limitation, early enrollment is encouraged.
