These courses
are recomended for all members of the UBC.
Welding
Basic -- Saturday, February 17, 2007 (starting at 7 a.m.)
This course is designed for the beginning welder and covers both
oxyacetylene torch work and arc welding (stick). Includes
class discussion on theory, safety and practical uses of welding.
(Prerequisite: None) Enrollment
Fee: No fee
Welding Advanced -- Course Length: Weekdays - Any day/days Monday
through Friday. (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) when Training Center
is open. Weekends when upgrade classes are being conducted. This
course covers some theory with greater emphasis placed on out-of-position
carbon steel welding with shielded-metal arc process. E-6010,
E-6013 and E-7018 electrodes will be used exclusively. Various
joints and joint preparations will also be covered. (Prerequisite:
(1) Welding Basic Course (2) Prior welding at training center.)

Welding Certification -- Course Length:
See Welding Advanced. The procedures, standards and qualifications
of welder certification testing are in accordance with the
American Welding Society, Structural Welding Code AWS D1.1 American
National Standard. The plate groove test welded in the
3G(Vertical) and 4G (Overhead) welding positions will qualify the
welder to weld from 1/8" up to and including 3/4" plate.
(Prerequisite: Welding Basic/Welding Advanced) Enrollment
Fee: None - There will be a fee for having the test plates
tested. This fee will be refunded upon passing.)
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)
-- Course Length: See Welding Advanced. This course
will use a TIG machine and/or TIG torch to weld carbon steel and
stainless steel. (Prerequisite: Welding Certification
or Welding Advanced) Enrollment Fee: None
Plasma Arc Cutting -- Course Length:
See Welding Advanced. This course is designed to familiarize
the participant in Plasma Arc Cutting using a hypertherm machine
to cut various thickness carbon steel and stainless steel. (Prerequisite:
Welding Basic) Enrollment Fee: None
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)/Flux Cored
Arc Welding (FCAW) -- Course Length: See Welding Advanced.
This course is designed to familiarize the participant in both GMAW
and FCAW welding using a millermatic 200 welding machine. (Prerequisite:
Welding Basic/Welding Advanced) Enrollment Fee: None
NOTE
TO ALL APPRENTICES: All apprentices
are encouraged to complete all Certification/Qualification courses;
however, Apprentices must always work under the direction of a qualified
journeyman.
**NOTE:
All courses are subject to minimum enrollment as defined by the
committee.
Due to class size limitation, early enrollment is encouraged.
